The Department of Graphic Design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, TAIK, and the Design Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, VDA, arranged a joint-workshop for 2nd-year graphic design students on non-verbal communication and information graphics from Monday 12 november until Friday 16 november 2007 at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania.
In the workshop, the students were working in different groups, each on a separate project. They had to create concepts and designs for a non-verbal signage system for marking places of events for "VILNIUS European Capital of Culture 2009" event year, the theme of which is "Culture Live".
One of the seven main program categories, "Enjoy: People’s Program", was chosen as the main topic of the workshop. The students had to choose from the following events: A Taste of Vilnius,
Children´s Creativity Festival, Rock Festival on the Belarus border, Street Music Festival,
Youth Culture Festival and Subculture Festival. In addition, each group had to make a proposal
for a one additional event of their choice.
The workshop was arranged and tutored by lecturer Tarja Nieminen from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and associate professor Ausra Lisauskiene from The Vilnius Academy of Arts.
